The Good / Fast / Cheap Matrix

Ideas solve current or future problems in two out of three ways. It can either be good and fast, fast and cheap, or cheap and good. To compete in all three is a fool's errand.

Pick One Of The Following:

  • Good and Fast But Not Cheap

  • Fast and Cheap But Not Good

  • Cheap and Good But Not Fast

#2 Where Is Your Customer?

Active Research

Engage in Active Research by pre-selling your idea to potential buyers. This data will impress investors and may open new opportunities to partner with brands who already have a customer base making investment unnecessary.

Get Out And Engage In Active Research

  • Look For People Who Are Using The Same Or A Similar Product Or Service

  • Look For People Who Are Using A Similar Product Or Service

  • Find People Who Would Agree To Sell This Product Or Service

Build Your First Prototype

After your active research, consider partnering with someone with the skills and tools necessary to produce a working prototype. For a service, this may be a case study or a portfolio piece.

Ideally, it's best to focus on selling what you believe you can actually deliver to the customer.

Keep A Notebook And Be Sure To Record:

  • Cost Of Materials Needed Per Unit Sold

  • Cost of Tools Needed To Make The Product

If you've made it this far, congrats! Now let's regroup! You may have five people doing a one man job or focusing too much on it being sexy than functioning properly.

Some areas may require slowing down, while others may require more speed. Listen, be patient, reflect, and make adjustments to achieve your goals.

  • Raising Or Lowering Quality Unnecessarily
